Developing Thinking Skills for Learners, 4th Grade - Adults
Cognitive skills are thinking skills. Cognitive Enrichment is the process of improving thinking which, in turn, should improve academic performance. The curriculum provides focused instruction in developing thinking skills, employing Feuerstein’s Instrumental Enrichment (FIE) program. The FIE program involves 14 series of paper and pencil tasks, each one becoming progressively more complex and abstract. Through these tasks, students develop thinking skills to more effectively process information, see connections, visualize spatial and temporal relationships, and communicate in more precise ways -- all foundational skills to higher academic achievement. Teachers trained by the Southeastern Center for Enhancement of Learning (an authorized training center for FIE administration), can provide Cognitive Enrichment for both children or adults, from fourth grade through retirement years. It is effectively administered individually or in groups and is appropriate for all levels of academic performance, from those classified as having special learning needs to those classified as having special gifts.
