Grounded in a Christian worldview, NCS middle school offers students a strong academic curriculum. This program provides a solid foundation in basic content areas, at the same time encouraging strong character and social skills. A concentrated reading program, supplemented with age-appropriate novels, continues to introduce students to quality literature. Strong emphasis is placed on vocabulary, grammar skills, language, spelling, and creative writing with a focus on the application of such skills in analytical reading and written composition.

Math emphasizes critical thinking and problem-solving skills while requiring children to achieve ownership of number fluency and basic math functions. Science and history curricula help students explore their world through the lens of God’s creation.

As a 1:1 school, technology is integrated into classroom content as well as offered as interest-based electives for students with that bend.  Additionally, students in grades 5 and 6 are scheduled for a Literacy Skills course which complements the materials being taught in the core academic classes, including typing, research techniques, study skills, reading and writing remediation, and enrichment.

Elective classes that enrich students include robotics, technology, physical education, study skills theater, vocal, band, and art.  Students find community with one another through functions such as weekly advisory groups, after-school programs, clubs,  and middle school athletics.

Students in 8th grade are allowed to begin an advanced track of high school classes in English, math, and science as determined by classroom performance, standardized test scores, and teacher/parent recommendation.  Additionally, 8th-grade students may apply for a Christian Leadership elective where accepted students can run for student government office in the middle school, help plan/lead chapels, advisory groups, and retreats, lead the praise band, etc.

Our Philosophy for our faculty is that education is constantly evolving.  Our teachers are required to hold a Louisiana state certification, in addition, to maintain 180 hours of professional development over a five year period to satisfy the mandated requirements of our faculty as a school that is AdvancEd certified and accredited.
