NORTHLAKE CHRISTIAN SCHOOL NAMES NEW HEAD OF SCHOOL

The Northlake Christian School Board of Directors is pleased to announce its selection of Glenn Martin as incoming Head of School for the 2018-2019 school year. After a nationwide search, Mr. Martin quickly arose as an outstanding candidate due to his experience and proven success as Director of Development at The King’s Academy (TKA) in West Palm Beach, Florida, a position in which he has served since 2000.

During Mr. Martin’s tenure at TKA, the school has progressed in several areas, including a $34 million campus relocation, enrollment increases from 1100 to 1500 students, preschool satellite location launches, and over $32 million in annual and capital donations.

“I am humbled by the opportunity to lead NCS.  The search committee’s intentional process of seeking God’s will for the future inspired confidence and exhibited leadership.  As Sue and I have gotten to know NCS, we see a community that values faith and family and desires growth in a school with a rich history.  We look forward to joining that community,” said Martin.

Mr. Martin holds a B.A. in English/Speech Performance from Kentucky Wesleyan College and an M.A. in Writing and Linguistics from Northwestern State University. He has served in many capacities at TKA, including Advanced Placement English teacher and Assistant Principal. In addition, Mr. Martin was the Executive Director of the Heath Evans Foundation from 2008-2012, a nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering hope and healing to childhood victims of sexual abuse through professional biblical counseling.

“Throughout our search process, the search committee and Board of Directors had a clear goal. We were guided by the charge that our new Head of School, in addition to managing all aspects of school administration, must be able to provide clear direction, inspiration and strong leadership in the areas of academics and spiritual life. We are confident that Mr. Martin has the experience, skills and passion to take Northlake Christian to new heights while fulfilling the mission of the school,” commented Marc Lyman, President of the Northlake Christian School Board of Directors.

Mr. Martin will begin his role as Northlake Christian’s Head of School on July 1, 2018. His wife, Sue, and their three children will be moving to the Northshore in June. Their son Zachary and daughter Abigail will begin 10th and 11th grade, respectively, at NCS in August, 2018.

Mr. Monty Fontenot, who has served as Head of School since March of 2014, will move into the role of Director of Operations when Mr. Martin arrives in July. We are grateful to Mr. Fontenot for serving in the role of Head of School for the last four years.

BEN AND COURTNEY HAINDEL

In honor of Valentine's Day next week, we thought we would highlight our SIX married couples on staff.

Meet Ben Haindel (Middle School Principal) and Courtney Haindel (Director of Marketing and Enrollment).

Where did you meet? On the second floor of the NCS Upper School building! Ben was teaching HS Bible in 208 and I was teaching HS English in 206. He didn't like me at first until he spied on me and saw I was a pretty good teacher.

Where did you go on your first date? Ben cooked me dinner at his house on Valentine’s Day 2008 – steak, vegetable soup and bread pudding. Pretty impressive feat for a confirmed bachelor who mostly ate mac and cheese and ramen noodles.

What do you love most about your spouse?

Ben: We never seem to spend enough time together. We are literally within 50 yards of each other 24 hours a day, but we never grow tired of each other. She makes me want to be a better man.

  • Courtney: Ben speaks my Acts of Service love language every day by bringing me Diet Cokes and he loves our children passionately.

What makes you crazy about your spouse?

  • Ben: She’s really smart and always right. She also eats some really loud healthy crackers every night which sound like she’s chewing on glass.
  • Courtney: Ben told our children he was allergic to vegetables so therefore doesn’t have to eat them. He’s practically perfect in every way but is slightly miserable to feed.

When and where did you get married? Mandeville Bible Church, October 18, 2008. It's our 10 year anniversary this year!

What's your favorite memory from the wedding?

  • Ben: Just before the wedding started, Courtney had someone pass a note to me saying that she was there at the church and that she loved me. Those two things are always good to hear on your wedding day. I know everyone thinks so, but my bride was by far the most beautiful woman in the world that day.
  • Courtney: Listening to Ben vow to love me and my children forever, and updating my Facebook relationship status and last name in the car on the way to the reception! I was really fired up to do that.
